Abstract: | Palestinian literature, which is a part of Arabic literature, has been marginalized for numerous reasons in academics. Modern Palestinian literature as a category can be traced to the British Mandate and to the establishment of Israeli State in 1948. The War of 1967 which aggravated the situation led to the continuance of Israeli Occupation. In the backdrop of these circumstances, a literature that can be identified as Palestinian has emerged and taken shape as the one lending voice to the sufferings of Palestinians. Military censorship, confiscation and banning of the books and death threats have been common experiences for Palestinian intellectuals. This paper introduces Palestinian literature and the challenges faced by the Palestinian authors in the process of writing, publishing and circulating Palestinian literature to the global market. It also focuses on the way that Palestinian writers respond to Israeli domination through literature. |
