dc.description.abstract | In this book, Strategies for achieving sustained high economic growth- The Case of Indian States is a significant work in the field of sustained economic growth for India. This book contributes to the area of state-level analysis of economic growth and has shown an alternative approach to achieve sustainable growth. In India, the agriculture sector has its own significance from a policy perspective for a various reason. In 1980, the rate of growth of Indian per capita income at over 4 percent has raised the hope that persistent problem of poverty could be overcome in near future if there is a proper balance of growth across regions and across the sector in India. India has a federal structure with sharing the responsibilities for development and governance jointly as well as separately. In this book they have identified there is a considerable amount of variation across the states. To get a sustained high rate of economic growth, the relationship between states and central government policies is also an important factor to be considered and impact of inter-linkages between economics and sectors that can help to achieve more balanced economic growth across the region in India. The book is divided into 7 chapters which includes, Introduction, Growth Experience of Indian States: Similarities and Divergence, Learning from sectoral Linkages: Agriculture and Economy, State Agriculture in the National Economy Setting, Explaining Variations in Agricultural Productivity Across Indian States: The role of Human Capital and Infrastructure, Investment Pattern and Response to Economic Reforms at the State Level and Policy Conclusions. | |
